"Besides Gaming 2009: TV" について
In 2009 I really gave up on American TV. I easily rewatched more old shows then new. I don't know what it is, but I just can't seem to enjoy most American shows. I never really got into the whole murder mystery or CSI stuff. What passes as sci-fi is a joke. The comedies I find to be normally the easy laugh track classic family sitcom fluff. That is of course all just my opinion. I have decided to just list what I did find entertaining from the US TV markets. 30 Rock One of the only TV shows I still watch. The writing has always just been stellar. Couple that with a great cast that can deliver one liners with sniper precision, and you have an award winning series. 30 Rock is a show that I actually check to see if a new one airs each week. Family Guy I still love to watch this show. It is just one of those guilty pleasures. They are just fun to watch and every now and then they produce some really hilarious bits. See the Next Generation episode. Scrubs I don't really know where the series is going to end up. As long as they keep Perry and his overbarringness though, I'll keep watching. Office I watched two episodes and called it quits. I really can't stand Michaels's ineptitude anymore. After the whole rumor thing episode and screwing Jim over, I realized that I no longer find his character entertaining anymore. I find it unnerving how his character acts and is allowed to act. South Park This is a show that I have always and continue to enjoy. The episodes can be hit or miss, but always entertaining. I tend to like their character based episodes as appose to the what's in the news topical ones. This is also one of the series that I decided to go back to the roots and watch again from the beginning. It was fun rewatching the whole series and seeing how it has evolved, even the movie looks dated when compared to recent episodes. I will have to say though that the fifth season is my favorite. It had Cripple Fight, Scott Tenorman Must Die, Kenny Dies, and Butters' Very Own Episode. Buffy the Vampire Slayer This was probably my most ambitious viewing. I watched all the seasons and all the available commentaries and extras. I even continued the series by reading the comic books which are considered season 8. Overall this is one of the best entertainment mediums ever made. They provide the perfect mixture of comedy, action, and drama. Firefly A little easier to rewatch thanks to the lower episodes count, but is still just as great as Buffy. I rented Serenity and the series on Blu-ray just to catch all the new extras and such. It is always funny listening to the commentaries and hearing how badly the network screwed them over and didn't know what they wanted. Legend of the Seeker This series reminded me of the old Xena style shows. Just the right amount of campness to be entertaining but not annoying. The first series was good but I found the second to be rather contrived and stumbling over itself. For now I have just stopped watching it and will come back to it when it is all done, maybe. Earth 2 Remember that show. It was fairly good and has held up really well over time. It's a shame it didn't make it. It is easily on par with today's sci-fi shows. SeaQuest I cannot stress how into SeaQuest I was back in the day. I fascinated on Darwin the dolphin and Jonathan Brandis, RIP. There was just something about that show that seemed uber cool at the time, but as you expect the series did not age well at all. Once they went into space and back, the series had jumped the shark. Even the small time jump couldn't make me watch the third season in its entirety. I remember I was so happy to get the SeaQuest cap from Universal Studios during one of my vacations back in the day, simpler times. Misc. Now I love me some theoretical future specials. You know, those shows that talk about the way the world will change in X number of years. The Future is Wild, Life After People, Last Days on Earth, Alien Planet, are just a sampling. Also The Canine Conspiracy / The Cat Connection was rather informative, catwise not dogwise. Well that's about it. Looking forward to 2010, I am going to try and watch some new shows. More than one person I know has recommended Dexter to me and I have started watching it. Also now that I know Dollhouse is ending I figure I should start it. Other than that I don't really think there are any other US show that are worth my time.
